Build an audience segment

Combine six filters — industry, country, company size, score, title, and intent — into a reusable audience that resolves to a live lead segment, then send campaigns to it or spin up a lookalike.

Updated August 2026

An audience is a saved, reusable definition of who you want to reach — built from filters rather than a hand-picked list. In KudosCRM an audience resolves to a live segment of leads, so the people in it always reflect who matches your criteria right now, not who matched the day you exported a spreadsheet.

This guide covers the six filters you can combine, how to preview the size before you commit, building a lookalike audience from a good one, and why an audience that's in use can't be deleted out from under a running campaign.

Who this is for

Marketers and reps who want to target the right slice of their leads, and ops who keep segmentation reusable and clean.

Before you start

  • Leads in KudosCRM with the attributes you want to filter on (industry, country, size, score, title, intent).
  • An idea of who you're trying to reach — the tighter the definition, the more useful the audience.

Good to know
An audience resolves to a live LEAD segment — the same resolution powers the size, the preview, and the recipient list when you attach the audience to an email campaign, so what you preview is what gets sent. Country is matched verbatim (the value as stored on the lead, not an ISO code), so keep your country values consistent. An audience that's in use by a campaign is delete-guarded — you'll need to detach it first, which prevents pulling the rug out from under a live send.

Define, preview, and reuse

  1. Start a new audience and name it
Create an audience and give it a clear name — 'US mid-market, high intent' beats 'Segment 3'. The name is how you'll recognize it later when attaching it to a campaign.
  2. Add filters across the six dimensions
Combine any of the six filters: industry, country, company size, score, title, and intent. Each filter narrows the segment, so layering a few — say a target industry plus a minimum score — gets you to a precise, high-quality slice.
  3. Preview the size
As you set filters, the audience shows how many leads currently match and lets you preview them. This is the same live resolution that will feed a campaign, so the count you see is the count you'll send to — tune the filters until the size feels right.
  4. Save the audience
Save it once you're happy. Because it's a live definition, it re-resolves every time it's used — leads that start matching later are included automatically, and leads that stop matching drop out.
  5. Build a lookalike (optional)
From a strong audience, create a lookalike to find more leads that resemble your best matches. It's a fast way to widen reach without hand-building a new filter set from scratch.
  6. Use it in a campaign
Attach the audience to a bulk email campaign as its recipient list. While a campaign is using it, the audience is delete-guarded — detach it before deleting, so a live send never loses its audience mid-flight.

What you get

  • Reusable audiences built from six filters, not brittle hand-picked lists.
  • A live lead segment that re-resolves every time it's used, so it never goes stale.
  • A size and preview that match exactly what a campaign will send to.
  • Lookalike audiences to widen reach from your best-matching leads.

Frequently asked questions

What can I filter an audience on?

Six dimensions you can combine freely: industry, country, company size, score, title, and intent. Layering a few filters gets you a precise segment — for example a target industry above a minimum lead score in a specific country.

Does an audience update as my leads change?

Yes. An audience is a live definition, not a frozen list. It re-resolves every time it's used, so leads that begin matching your filters are added automatically and leads that no longer match drop out — there's no re-export step.

Will the campaign send to exactly the leads I preview?

Yes. The same live resolution powers the audience size, the preview, and the recipient list when you attach it to a campaign — so what you preview is what gets sent at send time.

What is a lookalike audience?

A lookalike takes a strong existing audience and finds more leads that resemble its members, so you can widen reach without hand-building a new filter set. It's seeded from an audience you already trust.

Why can't I delete an audience?

Because it's in use. Audiences attached to a campaign are delete-guarded so a live send can't lose its recipient list mid-flight. Detach the audience from any campaign using it, then delete it.
