Kanban, list, forecast and timeline views
Four ways to look at the same deals. Each answers a different question, and using the wrong one is why the pipeline sometimes feels harder to read than it should be.
Updated August 2026
The same deals can be read four ways, and each view is good at a different question. Knowing which to open saves most of the friction people feel working a pipeline.
Who this is for
Reps working deals, and managers reading the pipeline.
Before you start
- Permission to read deals.
- At least one pipeline with deals on it.
Pick the view that matches the question
Kanban answers 'where is everything and what should move'. List answers 'which deals match these criteria'. Forecast answers 'what will we close and are we on track'. Timeline answers 'what happened and when'. Most frustration with a pipeline is someone using kanban for a question list would answer in seconds.
Use the four views
- Kanban for working the board
Deals as cards in stage columns. Drag one across when it genuinely progresses — every move is written to the record, so the board is also a history. - List for filtering and bulk work
When you want deals matching specific criteria, list is far faster. Deals support a large set of filters, and the list is where bulk actions live. - Forecast for the number
Open deals weighted by probability, sorted into confidence, with quota attainment alongside. This is the management view. - Timeline for what happened
The sequence of events rather than the current state. Useful when reconstructing how a deal got where it is. - Save the ones you use
Any filtered list can be saved as a view and reused, which is what turns a daily rebuild into one click.
What you get
- A board for working and a list for filtering.
- A weighted forecast read against quota.
- A chronological account when you need to reconstruct a deal.
- Saved views so your regular cuts are one click away.
Frequently asked questions
Which view should I live in?
Reps usually work kanban day to day and drop into list for anything specific. Managers usually live in forecast. Timeline is for investigating rather than working.
Does dragging a card record anything?
Yes. Every stage move is written to the record, so the board doubles as history rather than only showing current state.
Why can I not find a deal on the board?
It is usually on a different pipeline, or filtered out by the view you are in. The list view with a clean filter is the fastest way to locate it.
Can I customise what the views show?
Yes — columns in list, and the fields shown on kanban cards are configurable too.
